Mel Kay studied vocal performance at The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts graduating in 2015 and being accepted into Honors.

 

She was unfortunately diagnosed with Lyme disease that year and so took the year off and focused on healing and writing. When she was 19 she scored radio airplay for her song Lonely Now during the course of her degree. After graduating her single Upside Down Town was signed to the A&R Department in Sydney and played internationally while also scoring local commercial airplay. She has since played her original music for the heads of Silicon Valley, on Channel 7, and Foxtel as well as being broadcast in York , Rio, South Carolina and around the globe through various stations.

 

In 2017 she wrote her show "Personality Disorder Catalyst" focused on trauma, mental health, and escaping the cycle of abuse the next year and performed it to a captive audience at The Ellington Jazz Club. She was nominated for her single PHOENIX top 6/1400 at the WAM awards in 2019 & top 12/6000 at International songwriting competition Unsigned Only for her collaboration with Producer BACKFALL writing the top line and vocal melody for YOU.

 

She has performed at venues across Western Australia, Darwin & Hawaii. In 2023 she released her first USA single HEAVEN and the launch sold out at The Slack Key Lounge in Honolulu. She has opened for Taimane Gardner as well as performing live at The Northshore International Film Festival. In 2025 she works regularly as a performer in Hawaii and recently sold out another show at The Velvet Monkey.

She is passionate about her music reaching those who have been hurt with the aim to help people feel less alone. ​

Having explored many genres of music in her writing through the years she is now leaning into folk pop with gospel roots.

She is excited to be working on her next album this year ~ Of Angels & Architects ~ set to release early 2026.
